Lisa Fernandez

Lisa, from Long Beach, Calif., is an energetic pitcher and makes headlines. During her years at UCLA, she helped lead their softball team to two NCAA Women's College World Series titles and was a four-time NCAA All-American. During her senior year, she had an ERA of 0.51 and a batting average of .510, two records that are expected to be unchallenged for years.

The ASA named her Sportswoman of the Year in 1991 and 1992.

Fernandez pitched at Atlanta in 1996 and ended with a 0.33 ERA, held her opponents to a .111 batting average, allowed no walks, and had thirty-one strikeouts. More recently in the final (gold medal) game against Australia at the South Pacific Classic in New Zealand, Lisa was perfect -- no runs, no hits, no walks, no one got to first base.

Lisa also pitched a one-hitter against Australia to lead the U.S. to its fourth straight World Championship title in 1998, and she also scored the only run of the game (1-0) when she hit a home run in the first inning.
