Performance Task:

|
Mary Ann has been asked to make a presentation to a
local civic group on the Huichol (pronounced Wetchol) Indians of Mexico,
which sponsored her trip to the region. She learned about the Spanish
language spoken in Mexico, the diversity of the culture, and the art of the
Huichol Indians that is famous worldwide.
Mary Ann also learned the legend of Ojo de Dios and how to make one
of her own. This type of art is
made of brightly covered woven yarn. The center represents the eye and has
a spiritual significance.
The
purpose of this activity is for students to learn about the culture and art
of the Huichol Indians of Mexico.
Students will research the legend of Ojo de Dios, write an article
on the research, write directions for making an Ojo de Dios, make an Ojo de
Dios, and make an oral presentation on the research.
Procedure:
1. Research the Huichol
Indians and the legend of Ojo de Dios and prepare an article of your results.
2. Write clear, concise directions on
how to make an Ojo de Dios.
3. Make a ten minute oral presentation on your
research that includes visuals, keeping in mind that your audience is a
civic group. Use a computer for the visuals if possible.
4. Using your
directions, make a six-inch Ojo de Dios using at least four colors forming
four eyes.
5. Determine what theorem or theorems are related to the
geometric configurations in your created product. Workplace writing - a research report. Workplace writing -
instructions. Delivering an oral presentation.
