Performance Task:

 

 

You will create a newspaper with a focus on medieval times.  You will work with a group to determine articles to include in newspaper.  The group will research the time period to develop subject matter appropriate to the time frame.  The finished product will be computer-generated with graphics.  It must include at least one main article, one human-interest story, one editorial, one sports article, one commercial advertisement, and several want ads.  Additional articles or more than one article per topic could enhance grade.  Extra articles will not take the place of the required articles.  Your newspaper should resemble a modern paper and should also include a masthead, date, and bylines.

Apply in writing the rules and conventions of grammar, usage, punctuation, paragraphing and spelling.  (ela1)

Gather information from a variety of sources, including electronic sources, and summarize, analyze, and evaluate its use for a report.  (ela3)

Understand and produce a variety of informative formats such as business letters, memos, reports, news articles, brochures, proposals and critiques.  (ela22)

                        Demonstrates effort in quality and appearance.
                        Demonstrates knowledge of time period.

2 Points  =  Five of six required articles included.
                        Shows some creativity in subject matter.
                        Masthead does not include necessary information
                        Writing includes mistakes and shows lack of proofreading.
                        Historically accurate.
                        Somewhat visually appealing.
                        Demonstrates some effort.
                        Demonstrates basic knowledge of time period.

1 Point  =  Less than five required articles included.
                        Shows some creativity in subject matter.
                        Masthead does not include necessary information.
                        Writing demonstrates lack of proofreading and includes major grammatical
                        mistakes.
                        Historical accuracy is poor.
