| Company History |
In 1997, a group of innovative educators and parents in Washington Peninsula School District recognized the potential of the Internet as a teaching tool. They also realized they needed to find a simple, practical way to harness the Internet's vast resources to address the specific needs of their district. The group convinced others in the district, as well as companies like Microsoft and Toshiba, to join them in creating what became the first Education Gateway.
As word spread of this pilot project, interested educational leaders from across the country and around the globe traveled to Washington to view this working model of technology incorporated effectively into the classroom. EdGate soon established itself as a leading provider of local, Internet-based learning communities.
EdGate has continued to grow into a diversified, nationwide company, offering its products and services to thousands of schools, educators, students, and parents across the country. Even with this rapid growth, EdGate has never lost its homegrown roots and is still managed by experienced educators dedicated to helping teachers and students.
In May of 2006, EdGate was merged into EDmin.com, a San Diego based educational software and services company whose mission is, "To serve the K-12 educational community with value-driven solutions that support decision-making, accelerate learning, and improve performance." More information can be obtained by visiting www.edmin.com.
The merger combines the organizational strengths and product development efforts of EDmin and EdGate. The combined organization has clients in every state in the US and 18 foreign countries. With offices in California, Washington state, Connecticut, and personnel in Colorado, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and New York, EDmin has the resources and expertise to uniquely meet the evolving needs of K-12 school districts and educational organizations in the United States and around the world. The combination of EDmin and EdGate provides significant benefits for innovative school districts looking for state-of-the-art, Internet accessible solutions to better support teaching and learning.
